1010. CONTINUUM: A Documentary

CONTINUUM is a feature documentary about our interconnection with each other, the biosphere, and the cosmos.

We are in the midst of an ecological crisis of an unprecedented scale, with implications not only for mankind’s social, economic and political spheres, but for the life system of the planet as a whole.
One of the fundamental factors underlying this crisis is our worldview: the way we see the world around us and our relationships to each other, the planet, and the cosmos as a whole. Our worldview informs our values, behaviour, and way of life in such a way that some environmentalists have declared the environmental crisis to actually be a ‘crisis of worldview’. One dominant feature of our ordinary worldview is the misperception that we are separate from each other and the greater systems we are embedded within.
CONTINUUM is a feature-length documentary that explores this sense of separation and its roots in language, perception and our evolution. The journey will take us from the first stirrings of life to the emergence of a global brain; from the complexity and wonder of a single plant cell to the emerging biomimetic technologies that are changing the way we build the future; and from the appearance of modern humans to the planetary crisis we face today.
Along the way, multiple perspectives guide the journey – both scientific and philosophical, ancient and modern – in an attempt to see things as they are. These insights show that the deepest and widest sense of identity we can have encompasses not just the story of all life on this planet, but the legacy of matter and energy running back in time through the stars to the origin of the universe.
We've had the honor of interviewing some absolutely incredible people for this film: astronauts, poets, biomimetic designers, teachers, Tibetan lamas, activists, cosmologists, ecologists, complexity theorists. Their words are incredibly powerful and poignant, and combined with the stunning visual narrative footage we've filmed around the world, and an amazing original score by the Human Suits (http://www.humansuits.com/), this film is shaping up to be something really unique.
From the CONTINUUM Collective

We are Planetary Collective and over the past three years we’ve been working on Continuum, a ground-breaking feature-length documentary that began as a dream more than 13 years ago.
We hope that this documentary will change the way we think as a species – to stop seeing ourselves as separate from each other, from the planet and the cosmos – and inspire us to work together to transform our planetary crises.
By weaving together perspectives and ideas from some of the key theorists and thinkers in the fields of cosmology, environmentalism, sustainability, social theory, anthropology and systems dynamics, Continuum tells the story of where we have come from, where we are now, and the possibilities for our future.
The way the film looks is of prime importance to us, so we have travelled the world collecting awe-inspiring footage that emphasizes the beauty and complexity of the natural world, the relationship between humanity and the environment, and the inspiring organisations and projects appearing around the world to confront and transform our current planetary crises.
We’ve already shot twenty amazing interviews, and some stunning visual narrative footage, but we need to raise a final round of funding to shoot 5-6 more interviews, and carry us through post-production to finish the film.
With $80,000 dollars, we can finish this film. But with more than that, we can make it more amazing, and bring it to you even faster.
We need your help to make the final push of turning this dream into a reality. Many private funders, along with the goodwill of friends and strangers offering time, resources and support, have helped us to get this far. There’s a lot of belief behind this film. Thank you to those who have supported us so far – your kindness has been integral to the film’s success.
Please be one of those believers and put your support behind a film that we believe will change this world.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
